Gregory C. Mallo, MD, FAAOS is a board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in shoulder reconstruction and arthroscopy of the shoulder.

As a medical officer in the United States Navy, Dr. Mallo was deployed to a forward operating position in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan with the Marines of the Combat Logistics Battalion out of Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina. His military practice involved complex shoulder and knee care for Marines and Sailors including members of the Elite Special Forces and Wounded Warrior Communities. In 2014 Dr. Mallo was one of only four surgeons in the nation chosen for the prestigious Advanced Arthroscopy Traveling Fellowship program by the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA).

Dr. Mallo also completed a fellowship dedicated to Shoulder Reconstruction and Arthroscopy at Harvard University / The Boston Shoulder Institute. The fellowship was completed under the directorship of Jon J.P. Warner, MD, Matthew T. Provencher, MD, and Tom Holovacs, MD.
This prestigious, comprehensive immersion into the open and arthroscopic treatment of complex shoulder conditions, including revision rotator cuff surgery and shoulder arthroplasty, is based at the renowned Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA.

In addition, Dr. Mallo spent time as an International Visiting Shoulder Fellow in Annecy, France, at the Alps Surgical Institute under Laurent Lafosse and at Uniklink Balgrist in Zurich, Switzerland, under Drs. Christian Gerber and Domniik Meyer.

Dr. Mallo has authored several peer-reviewed articles in prestigious publications such as the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research. He co-authored a book chapter on shoulder instability and a comprehensive review of Superior Labrum Anterior to Posterior (SLAP) tears with Matthew Provencher, MD, former chief of Sports Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and head team physician for the New England Patriots.

Dr. Mallo can personally relate to the injured athlete as he has had several surgeries on his own shoulder and elbow stemming from his early baseball pitching career and high-demand physical military requirements.

Dr. Mallo travelled to NYC, Boston, and Cincinnati to collaborate with some of the nation’s most celebrated and cutting-edge  experts on the Arthroscopic treatment of high-demand, active patients.

He traveled with legendary Orthopaedic Surgeon and former AANA President Dr. Donald Johnson, M.D. who has completed nearly 20,000 ACL reconstructions in his career.
